I am a self taught potter based in Frome, a vibrant town in the south west of England. Working from my garden studio, I create individual batches of functional ware and sculptural pieces by throwing them on the wheel or using a variety of hand building techniques. Ceramics is a new discovery for me, following many years of working as a film and theatre production designer in Australia.
Like many potters, the connection to clay was immediate and brought a sense of focus and humility that I did not expect, but happily embraced.
I’m particularly drawn to the colourful alchemy of glazes. Having little to no science background - chemistry was not one of my strong subjects at school! - I’ve jumped into the world of glaze chemistry with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Coming from a strong design background, I’m particularly drawn to the unusual and overlooked; a moss covered twig, lichen spotted tree bark, skeleton leaves, the smallest thing can be a source of inspiration.
My wish is to create work that becomes part of your daily ritual, drinking coffee out of a hand crafted mug, eating a slice of toast off a hand thrown plate, or simply having one of my sculptural pieces gracing your shelf.
